I am a big critic the US style of TV wrestling, but I also still watch it. I can enjoy it. I enjoyu the performers. In that sense, Double or Nothing provided everything I could expect and ask for. Mina vs Toni was great for an AEW womens match, Mark Briscoe vs Ricochet gave beautiful bloodshed with a bit of that TV Wrestling comic book tone. Anarchy in the Arena was the enjoyable shitshow it always is, sitting playfully on the fence between stupidly indulgent and great.

The Main Event though was something else entirely.

Going to New York

I don't know if Mariah May is actually going to go to WWE but I grow tired of wrestling being a cycle of seeing your favorite wrestlers move to progressively worse and worse promotions.

I include AEW in this. I never feel happy anyone is going to AEW, outside the fact that it's at least not WWE. Even when it's someone leaving WWE, I wish they went somewhere else. I'm some some people look at Stardom like this too and they're probably right. Upward trajectory in wrestling always comes as a kind of conformity.

I resent the gravitational pull of western wrestling. Mina's not even gone yet and I'm still gutted that Mina is leaving for AEW. It's not like they don't treat her great, but great on US Television wrestling is still sparse and mediocre.

Blood

Blood. I love blood in wrestling. Especially this type of blood. Sometimes blood is Violence, but shots like this are post-violence. They are the exhale, sitting on the curb after a bar fight, smoking a cigarette. Sweat and Blood are receipts for what just happened. Someone covered in sweat isn't hot because sweat is hot, but because sweat means something happened worth sweating over.

Blood is no different. Wrestling is the sport of Sweat, Spit, and Blood.
