So much Wrestling this Week

I watched like 6 major wrestling shows since around the end of last year and finally it's over... ignoring the fact I still have matches I want to catch up on.

Between Stardom, AEW, and New Japan, Stardom far won out. TJPW and Oz Academy also had great shows. Top 3 matches of this week? Lets see...

  • Natsupoi vs Starlight Kid
  • Mina Shirakawa vs Mercedes Mone
  • Kenny Omega vs Gabe Kid

For the women, a the two other matches that stand out are Statlander vs Mone, and Saori vs Mayumi Ozaki. Oz Academy is weird cause it wasn't a great match, but normal standards... it rarely is over there... but god their chaotic, emotional main events are always entertaining. If I would to admit to liking Sports Entertainment ever, this is what it'd mean to me.

Mone vs Stat was great, but it was very much "an epic match". The story was, in it's entirety, that they "previously had a good match". Not that Mone and Shirakawa had a story, but each were extremely present for the match. Mina's emotions oozed out of her, finally standing on the stage she knew she always belonged on. Mone embraced her inner fangirl. While she still had the trappings of "The CEO", she came out as Sailor Moon, embracing what she is really is... a cool dork. Genuine Mercedes will always surpass the WWE inspired artifice she always tries to put on.

Kid and Natsupoi I need to react to formulate my opinions, but Natsupoi continues to be my favorite opponent for my favorite wrestlers. She honestly should be my second favorite or something at this point, but she's a brat so I can't give her what she wants. 😔

Honestly I also gotta rewatch Chi Chi vs Aya Sakura. The Stardom New Years show was kinda mid, but those two killed each other.

Still gotta see Sareee vs Utami from Marigold, but my friend was at the Stardom show so I had to watch along with that one.

Gabe vs Kenny was amazing. A real standout performance to the big ol cocky dickhead, Gabe, who manages to make everything around him seem real. Kenny for his part was the freak he always is when he's in top form. A point I've been trying to get across about him is he's good at selling danger. His selling of pain can be cartoonish at times, but the weight he puts on risk makes even the simplest spots feel like someone might die. He does just enough stupid stuff to make even a suplex feel like it might turn into some kind of act of murder.

I think if I was to pick another mens match it'd probably be Ospreay vs Kyle Fletcher. Him vs Okada was also great, but it's a very familiar type of great, that lacked the emotion and personal stakes. Still great, but not a match that's going to stick with me. I need to probably rewatch Takashita and Ishii too, I was kinda checked out during that but it seemed like they were going pretty hard. Otherwise... can't say I particularly enjoyed any of the New Japan stuff?
